Assistant Professor, General Faculty

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – GENERAL FACULTY

The Department of Statistics at the University of Virginia invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor, General Faculty. This position includes the possibility (in due course) of promotion to Associate and Full Professor.  Annual reviews are based primarily on teaching and service.  The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester, typically with only one or two distinct course preparations. Other duties include student advising, curriculum development, and other departmental and university service.  Professional activity that enhances teaching is strongly encouraged. The salary is market-competitive, and optional summer teaching for additional compensation is usually available.

This position is non-tenure track with three-year contracts that are renewable on successful review.  The area of specialization is open, but the Department is experiencing increased student demand in both statistics and computing, so we particularly welcome those whose teaching experience spans statistics, computing, and computational sciences. The appointment begins with fall term of 2019.  Applicants must hold a PhD in Statistics or a related field by the appointment start date and have a documented record of teaching courses in statistical theory, applications, and/or computation.
