Interdisciplinary Major in Applied Statistics (Legacy Only)

Information below is for students graduating in 2023 who have already declared this major.

Note: Students double majoring may count at most three courses included in another major. Courses used for the major prerequisite do not count against the three courses.

Biostatistics Concentration

The Biostatistics concentration is suitable for students using it as a primary major or a second major in conjunction with another major such as Biology.

Requirements: A total of nine courses are required for this concentration:

  • BIOL 2100
  • BIOL 2200 
  • One of MATH 3100 or APMA 3100 (You may also substitute STAT 3110.  
  • One of MATH 3351 or APMA 3080 (You may also substitute MATH 3350. 
  • One of STAT 3220 or STAT 5120
  • STAT 3120 
  • Three elective courses, each three or more credits.  Electives can be selected from any of the STAT courses 3000 or higher, or MATH 4110.

Econometrics Concentration

The Econometrics concentration is suitable for students using it as a primary major or a second major in conjunction with another major such as Economics or Commerce.

Requirements: A total of nine courses are required for this concentration:

  • ECON 2020
  • One of MATH 3100 or APMA 3100 (You may also substitute STAT 3110)  
  • One of MATH 3351 or APMA 3080 (You may also substitute MATH 3350.) 
  • One of STAT 3220, ECON 3720, STAT 5120
  • STAT 3120 
  • One of STAT 5170 or ECON 4710
  • Three elective courses, each three or more credits.  Electives can be selected from any of the STAT courses 3000 or higher, ECON 4720, or MATH 4110.

Engineering Statistics Concentration

The engineering statistics concentration is designed for SEAS students who want to have a second major in the College. However, it is also possible for a College student to opt for this concentration.

Requirements: A total of nine courses are required for this concentration:
 

  • One of MATH 3100 or APMA 3100 (You may also substitute STAT 3110.)  
  • One of MATH 3351 or APMA 3080 (You may also substitute MATH 3350.) 
  • One of STAT 3220, ECON 3720, STAT 5120, SYS 4021
  • One of STAT 3120 or APMA 3120
  • ​Five elective courses, each three or more credits.  Electives can be selected from any of the STAT courses 3000 or higher, ECON 4720, MATH 4110, or SYS 3060.

Mathematical Statistics Concentration

The audience for this concentration is College students who would like an applied quantitative major. 

Requirements: A total of nine courses are required for this concentration:

  • One of MATH 3100 or APMA 3100 (You may also substitute STAT 3110.)  
  • One of MATH 3351 or APMA 3080 (You may also substitute MATH 3350.) 
  • One of STAT 3220 or STAT 5120
  • STAT 3120
  • Five elective courses, each three or more credits.  Electives can be selected from any of the STAT courses 3000 or higher, or MATH 4110.

Actuarial Finance Concentration

The audience for this concentration is students in actuarial careers or the financial applications of statistical methods. 

Requirements: A total of nine courses are required for this concentration:

  • One of MATH 3100 or APMA 3100 (You may also substitute STAT 3110.) 
  • One of MATH 3351 or APMA 3080 (You may also substitute MATH 3350.) 
  • One of STAT 3220, ECON 3720, STAT 5120
  • STAT 3120
  • STAT 3150 (You may also substitute any STAT course 3000 or higher. Contact your major advisor regarding a substitution.)
  • One of STAT 5170 or ECON 4710
  • Three elective courses, each three or more credits.  Electives can be selected from any of the STAT courses 3000 or higher, MATH 4110, or MATH 4140.
